DIRECTOR  -  VICTORIAN WINE SHOW

LEAD A GREAT TEAM 

The Victorian Wine Show has a proud history of over 40 years for bringing together the wine community and celebrating the industry's success through driving quality and diversity of local wines and developing appropriate skills of our wine industry professionals.  

The  show continues to grow, and the position of Director is critical to continue this momentum.  As well as the judging of wines, the Victorian Wine Show has also contributed back to industry by sponsoring study tours, educational scholarships, supporting Victoria’s regional wine shows and incorporating international judges as part of the judging panels to enhance the show.  

Reporting to the Victorian Wine Show Council (VWSC), the position is part time, but will require a full time focus for the week of the Victorian Wine Show.  The Director’s role is to lead and manage the ongoing success of the wine show.  The director is the key point of contact for exhibitors, judges, sponsors, Government and other stakeholders and as such the role is essential in ensuring the show remains an important part of the Victorian Wine Community.  This includes working with the committee  to ensure the Victorian Wine Show remains relevant and in touch with future trends while aspiring to the highest levels of quality and innovation at all times for the overall  betterment of the industry.  

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate the following attributes

  • Clear understanding of wine show mechanics
  • Ability to communicate effectively with industry, Government and sponsors
  • Extensive industry knowledge and contacts
  • Outstanding communication skills at all levels, both verbal and written
  • Certain budgeting and cost control skills
  • A flair for innovative ideas to further enhance the VWS reputation and credibility
  • Leadership of a group of committed and enthusiastic volunteers to ensure the show occurs with a quality ethos in a collegiate manner. 

Some of the duties of the Director are, but not limited to

  • Appointment of the Judges in consultation with the Chief Judge and/or VWSC
  • Preparing and distributing the Wine Show schedule
  • Engaging with key stakeholders to ensure the Wine Show maintains its relevance and value to the Victorian Wine Industry
  • Co-ordinating, in conjunction with appropriate VWSC members, the appointment of stewards, venues, accommodation, educational events, awards lunch, Parliament House tasting event, Premiers Trophy judging, scholarship(s) and VWS results/medals/feedback being sent to exhibitors.

This is a part time paid position, and would suit an experienced industry professional looking to give back to the industry by enhancing the  reputation of the Victorian Wine Show and progressing its objectives.
