Description

Sapling Yard is an award-winning boutique winery located in the dynamic Canberra Wine District. We are small in size, but big on heart and looking for a motivated and passionate person to represent our wines.

We are about to open a new cellar door in the beautiful town of Bungendore, just a short 30 minute drive from the centre of Canberra. We also sell our wines to some of the best licensed venues in Canberra. In this role you will work across both of those aspects.

About the role

We are looking for someone to work on either a part-time or casual basis (open to discussion), contributing approximately 20 hours per week. Your time will be split roughly 50/50 between the cellar door and wholesale wine sales.

An average week looks a bit like this:

  • Saturday in the cellar door, providing visitors with a memorable experience. You’ll use your wine knowledge and exceptional customer service skills to create Sapling Yard fans for life.
  • You will assist with Tasting Room operations including opening and closing procedures, sales management, bookings and stock management.
  • Sign up customers to our newsletter and subscription wine boxes.
  • Assisting with packing and dispatching online orders.
  • During the week you will work approximately 10 hours servicing our Canberra wholesale customers. There is a degree of flexibility, and you can make the role your own.
  • Meet with sommeliers, bar owners and bottle shop staff to taste through the Sapling Yard range, using your wine knowledge to promote our wines.
  • Admin time sending emails and making calls to set up meetings for next week and follow up on the most recent ones.
  • You will work strategically alongside our national sales manager to build the Sapling Yard brand.

There is also the rare opportunity to get your hands dirty during vintage and help out around the winery.

About you

Our ideal candidate looks something like this:

  • Experience in Hospitality.
  • A passion for wine.
  • Current drivers license.
  • Available to work Saturdays - but we'll make sure you get one off a month.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make snap decisions in the cellar door.
  • A self-starter that can cope with busy and quiet days, using spare time to coordinate meetings, respond to emails and get ahead for next week.
  • Responsible service of alcohol (RSA) certificate.
  • WSET qualifications would be a welcome bonus.

This role offers a little bit of everything and no two days will be the same. You will be a valued member of a small team. There will be plenty of training, access to great wine and an open and trusting work environment.

Applicants must have Australian citizenship/residency or a valid existing Australian work visa.
