The Henschke family has been making wine in the Barossa’s Eden Valley since 1868. Today, fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and his viticulturist wife Prue are recognised around the world for their exceptional quality wines, innovation, and sustainability in the vineyard.

 Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone are two of the oldest single-vineyard wines continuously produced in this country and have become an integral part of Australia’s fine wine history. These single-vineyard sites are managed with organic and biodynamic practices and produce exceptional wines prized for their beauty and rarity.

 We have an extremely rare and exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced professional to join our team.

 SENIOR WINEMAKER

Reporting to Stephen Henschke, Managing Director, the Senior Winemaker has primary responsibility for all aspects of the winemaking operations supported by our existing expert team. The team ensures the consistency of crafting exceptional wines from sustainable vineyards and upholding excellence in existing traditional Henschke winemaking styles. As an active member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will be a hands-on and driven individual. You will provide leadership, technical direction, strategic planning and support to the team, with a focus on quality at all times.

The Senior Winemaker will guide the development of wine style direction and portfolio offerings, explore innovative opportunities and initiatives, monitor winemaking developments, and partake in representing the Henschke brand at media, trade, distributor and consumer events.

Experience, skills and attributes:

  • Extensive winemaking background with relevant qualifications
  • Ability to assess wine trends and make recommendations that align to our vision and values
  • Highly developed palate for quality wine assessment
  • Strong mentoring and leadership skills
  • Great communication skills, strong work ethic and positive attitude

The successful candidate will be involved in vineyard directives, harvesting schedules and quality assessments in conjunction with our Technical Officer, Vineyard Managers and growers. You will have an opportunity to work with fruit from historical Henschke vineyards, grown with organic and biodynamic practices, led by Viticulturist Prue Henschke. You will be committed to an environment of safety and quality control.
