Overstory is a sustainably minded and forward-thinking wine business, based at our certified organic vineyard - Wayfinder - in Western Australia's premium wine region, Margaret River. We are in the process of redeveloping our vineyards, breaking ground on our market garden and orchard and integrating animals into our regenerative farming system, with a new onsite cellar door and winery under construction.

We also share in our passion for wine and our desire to continually challenge convention and to push the envelope on wine quality (which includes regular wine tastings).

We are looking for a Viticulturist who is passionate about organic production and excited to be part of the future of this young business, Wayfinder. You will oversee, contribute to, and successfully execute the viticultural program across our 42 hectares of certified organic vineyard.

The role

  • Management of all vineyard staff, including permanent team members and contractors, assigning them daily tasks and setting ongoing goals
  • Creating and implementing spray programs to effectively manage and outperform any seasonal disease pressures
  • Implementing floor and undervine management within broader production goals
  • Purchasing and inventory maintenance
  • Effective record keeping
  • Ensuring all machinery is maintained and serviced to a high level
  • Liaising with stakeholders independent contractors and vineyard consultants
  • Managing vineyard irrigation programming, including repairs and scheduled maintenance
  • Creating and managing vineyard budgets in tandem with the CFO
  • Managing all yield estimation, sampling and harvest operations
  • Assisting in grounds and property maintenance as required
  • Ensuring all work onsite is conducted in a safe and efficient manner

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Viticulture preferred, extensive viticultural experience essential
  • Experienced in all aspects of vineyard management, including P&D scouting and controls
  • Experienced in usage of vineyard and farm equipment
  • Experienced in managing permanent and seasonal vineyard staff
  • Working knowledge and experience in organic viticulture very highly regarded
  • Experience in AgCode an advantage
  • Thoughtful in your observational and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to deliver clear and concise instructions
  • Calm and in control under seasonal pressures
  • Able to work collaboratively and acknowledge points of view and positions with reason
  • You are thorough and draw conclusions based on facts and research
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently or as part of a team with demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others
  • Skilled in report writing
  • You stay abreast of industry trends, evaluating and recommending emerging techniques and technologies and are excited by innovation
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office, with an emphasis on Excel spreadsheets
  • Current drivers licence
  • High-risk work licence and / or Forklift Licence, Chem Cert and First Aid Certificate an advantage, with training opportunities available for the right applicant
  • You will be flexible with overtime of up to 7 days per week as required, according to seasonal and operational requirements
