Scion is on the lookout for an enthusiastic Vineyard Hand to join our small team. This role focusses on maintaining a healthy vineyard throughout the year, yielding premium fruit to the requirements of Scion winery.

Spanning across two vineyard sites totalling 12 acres, the work entails all facets of the production of quality grapes, including vineyard infrastructure maintenance, soil and mid row management, pruning, spraying, canopy and yield management, harvest supervision and the safe operation of farm machinery.

This is an holistic role requiring consultation, research, planning, and physical labour throughout the year. At times additional labour may be required for certain tasks.  However good personal health status is a necessary precondition as many tasks require physical strength, stamina and the ability to work autonomously.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Pruning, vine training and canopy management
• Pest, disease and weed management
• Irrigation operation and repairs to equipment
• Trellis repairs
• Operating and maintaining machinery
• Assist as appropriate with general maintenance and care of facilities, property and equipment
• Work flexibly due to the seasonal nature of the role
• Conduct other relevant and appropriate duties as directed from time to time
• Experience and/or qualifications in vineyard operations are desired, or a commitment to study in the viticulture space
• Physically able – ability to safely lift, bend, reach etc
• Self-motivated, with good time management skills and ability to work independently
• Attention to detail and an eye for quality
• Excellent communication skills
• An understanding of workplace health and safety
• A current valid driver’s licence
• Good computer skills

Remuneration will be based on experience and qualifications.
