Vineyard/Cellar hand.

We’re looking for an outstanding person to fill in for our previous employee whose visa ran out recently at our family owned and managed Vineyard/Winery.

Our previous employee always showed up to work early, wasn’t distracted by his phone while working, learned new skills very fast, loved the challenge of new tasks and could be left alone to complete these tasks efficiently and with high levels of accuracy.

He had extremely high levels of pride in his work and thought through his tasks and improved processes where he could without instruction. He was honest, humble, worked well with others as well as by himself.

He was happy to switch from vineyard to cellar hand work to jobs such as pruning in the cold Barossa winters for days at a time.

Tasks included the following and would change from week to week.

Barrel work, washing wine tanks/barrels, washing the winery, pruning, shoot thinning, tractor driving, irrigation work, hoeing weeds, maintenance, breaking out water shoots and many other tasks too numerous to mention.

This job would be suited to someone who can show up to work on time/early, isn’t distracted by their phone while working, has high levels of self-motivation to work alone and with others, learn new skills very fast, love the challenge of new tasks and complete these tasks efficiently and with high levels of accuracy.

The primary focus of this role will revolve around vineyard work, high levels of tractor experience, machinery operation, ability to fix and work through break downs, have high levels of understanding of vineyard operations are the key attributes we’re looking for. Experience with Cellar Hand work would be great however if you have none but are a fast learner and can follow instructions well we can teach use these skills on the job.

You'd be working on a 300 acre vineyard and 500 tonne winery alongside a small family team and staff of 5 people (as well as contractors). We'll notify you with more details about our business once you get through the initial vetting process.

  • Our preference is for this to be a full time casual position.
  • Trial period of three months and continued work ethic reviews.

Tasks/other beneficial skills and qualifications.

  • Washing machinery/equipment
  • Pruning, shoot thinning, summer pruning, trellising.
  • Tractor and machinery operation experience at high levels i.e spraying, mowing, discing, cultivating, harvesting etc.
  • Monitoring pruning gangs
  • Chemcert certificate
  • Refuelling machinery/vehicles
  • Driving forklift
  • HR or HC Truck License/experience would be beneficial (applicant must be willing  to undertake the course and obtain this license eventually as truck driving will be part of the job eventually).
  • Cellar Hand Work
  • Irrigation system repairs and setting up
  • Irrigation monitoring
  • Communicating with contractors and mechanics etc.
  • General problem solving
  • Various other miscellaneous tasks
  • Farm work i.e fencing, occasionally working with sheep, general work.
