Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Winemaker to join our award-winning team in the iconic Yarra Valley. This dynamic role will support a range of duties as part of a multiple location vineyard operation.

This is a critical position to play an integral part of the ongoing development of our business.  As a member of the leadership team, you will drive the existing strategic plan whilst continuing to develop your team, yourself and contribute to all aspects of wine production and winery operations.

You will be Reporting to the Board, overseeing a dedicated team including a Senior Technician, a Winemaker and a Cellar Supervisor, with responsibilities to deliver efficient winery operations including:

  • Manage vintage planning and approval of blends for bottling;
  • determining volumes required for packaging; supervising shifts during vintage;
  • Supporting cold stabilising, fine tuning and filtration of wines for bottling;
  • Ensure analytical accuracy including entry of data into key systems (Vintrace)
  • Support the Technician troubleshooting and maintenance of all laboratory equipment and analysers.
  • Ensuring day to day production requirements are achieved on time;
  • Yeast and MLF (malolactic fermentation) culture preparation;
  • Fruit sourcing from other regions where required
  • Juice preparation and maintenance;
  • Tasting ferments and adjusting as required
  • Assisting with oak barrel planning and storage schedules;
  • Blending and final dispatch preparation;
  • Supporting projects for research and development;
  • Overseeing wine storage parameters;
  • Supporting cellar and production staff; and
  • Oversee Vineyard management to ensure critical standards for production

More general Vineyard Operations and Management responsibilities will include:

  • Client and Stakeholder relationship development
  • Deep understanding of the financial operation requirements to the Vineyard
  • Oversee invoicing and account preparation
  • Following and contributing to all on site procedures and policies, identify areas and processes for improvement
  • Troubleshooting problems that occur within the facility area
  • Monitor and ensure WHS & OHS process and practices are maintained

Your Experience:

  • Extensive wine making background and suitable qualifications
  • Exceptional internal and external stakeholder engagement experience
  • Ability to assess Wine Trends and making recommendations that align to the Vineyard’s Direction to and Strategy
  • Experience in driving marketing activities and managing existing key client relationships via site client access, participation in Events & Promotion of the Winery throughout the region
  • A proven leader comfortable in managing external communications and initiatives to help drive new customers through the cellar and explore innovative opportunities to promote the Vineyard with the Board.If this role sounds like the opportunity and challenge you are ready to take on, please contact myself for a confidential discussion.
