Machinery Operator & Vineyard Hand – Shaw + Smith, Adelaide Hills

  • Attractive salary and wine allowance
  • Full time permanent position

Shaw + Smith was established in 1989 by cousins Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw. They make wines exclusively from the Adelaide Hills, from varieties that suit the cooler climate: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.  Shaw + Smith own three vineyards, in Piccadilly, Lenswood and Balhannah.

Growing the best possible grapes, managing vineyards organically, and valuing vine health, soil health, and low yields are central to the Shaw + Smith approach. In the pursuit of quality, all grapes continue to be hand-picked, and the wines are fermented, aged, and bottled on site at the winery in Balhannah. The wines are vibrant, medium bodied expressions of their varieties that reflect their sites and region.

Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, this role works directly with the manager and other vineyard staff. The role would include tractor operations including fungicide application, slashing, mechanical Under-vine weed management and other general tractor operations. Experience with multi-row and over-row machinery would be an advantage. In addition, the successful applicant would be expected to carry out general vineyard tasks when machinery operations are not required.

The preferred applicant should have vineyard or orchard experience, however experience in other horticultural and machine operation fields would be considered.

Your attention to detail and strong verbal communication skills are essential to the success of this role. A flexible approach to work and appreciation of working within a small business will see you thrive in this supportive and team orientated environment. A current driver’s licence essential.  Additional hours may be required to work during vintage.

On offer is a supportive and learning environment, modern vineyard premises, and attractive salary plus an annual wine allowance.

Applications should be forwarded to Murray Leake via email
