We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, highly competent, self-motivated and results driven Chief Winemaker, who as a member of our team, is willing to understand, work with and improve nuances of the Ross Hill brands and styles. The Chief Winemaker operates and executes all aspects of the winemaking for Ross Hill Wines striving to produce a well-balanced portfolio of delicious, high quality and critically acclaimed wines for Ross Hill Wines. This is a hands-on role encompassing winemaking, laboratory, cellar work and winery maintenance.

The successful applicant must be able to engage in all aspects of wine production, demonstrate technical and common-sense ability, have very good communication skills, strong work ethic and be a team player.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and executes, on a day to day basis, all onsite wine production
  • Oversees and executes blending and tasting of bulk wines and winemaking trials
  • Creates distinctive, high quality wines while working with the owners on the Ross Hill house style
  • Establishes Vintage winemaking standards (grape sugars/acids, processing, finishing, etc.)
  • Rosters and supervises winery team while ensuring a positive working environment and culture
  • Participates directly during Vintage, which requires an extended work schedule
  • Conducts and produces robust and accurate in-house laboratory analysis
  • Performs special assignments, projects, and other duties as required
  • Has an extensive knowledge of winemaking and different wine styles and each stage of the wine cycle process from vine to bottle
  • Has proficiency in Winery record keeping
  • Has a strong technical ability with quality control as well as adding technical assistance to the team
  • Has good communication skills while interacting with internal & external stakeholders

Applicants must have a Tertiary qualification in Oenology or relevant discipline, minimum 5 years’ relevant winemaking experience, Australian citizenship/residency or a valid existing Australian work visa, a valid driving licence and forklift experience.
