Hugo Wines is a family owned and operated winery producing premium wines from the family estate located at the eastern foothills of McLaren Vale. The family property dates back five generations with the vineyard  first established in 1951 and has since expanded to over 20 hectares with further plantings to come. The winery has experienced significant growth over the past 5 years, including the development of Club 51 – Hugo Wines VIP wine club membership.  

While Hugo’s is known for traditional grape varietals, the family is now expanding the range with the addition of 4 new grape varieties (Tempranillo, Nero D’Avola, Fiano & Grenache Gris)  over the coming years and new branding across the Hugo range. The Hugo family have also built new offices on the property last year and has future plans to further develop its cellar door building to continue to enhance the experience when visiting Hugo Wines.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing the Cellar Door operations including sales (direct sales & wine club), customer experience and brand awareness. The role consists of ensuring exceptional customer service experiences are maintained whilst driving sales and Wine Club membership.

You will be supported by a strong passionate team and have the opportunity to learn about all areas of Hugo Wines from grape growing through to winemaking.

The key responsibilities of the Cellar Door Manager include the following:

  • Providing exceptional service which goes beyond customer’s expectations
  • Continue to develop Hugo Wines database and Wine Club (Club 51) whilst building a connection with our members
  • Successfully promoting Hugo Wines cellar door through working with management, business partners, local industry bodies, wine tour operators and other cellar doors
  • Design, budget and execute specific events that are memorable
  • Managing all day-to-day responsibilities involved with cellar door including, continuing to develop our cellar door experiences and following, managing staff rosters, recruitment, training, development and stock control.
  • Set key KPI’s with management and report how cellar door is tracking to target 

About You

You will possess the following:

  • Have previous managerial experience in a similar role, ensuring exceptional customer experiences with wine and food
  • Be a team leader with ability to develop & maintain a strong working culture, communication amongst cellar door team but also be able to work independently
  • Experience in direct sales to customers via database, wine clubs and website sales is highly desirable.
  • A sound knowledge of wine and a passion for the industry
  • Possess a positive and enthusiastic attitude to achieve sales targets and overall business goals
  • Computer (Microsoft suite & POS) and organizational skills
