Overall Job Purpose:
Direct Wine Production (DWP) is the production, sales & brand division of Direct Wines’ winemaking operations in Bordeaux, South Australia, and England’s Thames Valley. Our key customers include the group’s international retail businesses as well as an expanding and diverse band of external trade customers operating in non-conflicting sales channels.
DWP is looking for an exceptional & ambitious Winery Operations Manager to oversee its wine production business in South Australia and to project manage the construction of a new (initially) 500 tonne winery.
The role is based in South Australia (Barossa &/or McLaren Vale) with travel to Sydney, London, and Bordeaux as required. Additionally, there may be some international travel as required to support sales.
Lead, manage, coach & develop the team at RedHeads (salaried & casual)
Deliver required digital marketing support to ensure our brand is properly represented (blog, Instagram, Facebook etc.)
Ensure the wider brand bible is relevant and followed across all wines under the RedHeads brand
Responsibility for negotiations of all winery contracts :- grapes, contract processing, storage, bottling, dry goods, utilities etc.
Ensure RHS is delivering the best service for all customers (internally & externally).
Provide monthly – or as often as required – updates on progress and performance
Responsible for Government/TTB, administrative & regulatory compliance
Directly support the GM in development of Construction budgets, timelines, project planning & appointment of professional services for construction of a new winery
Day-to-date management of the construction project team (architects, planners, builders etc.) and reporting progress & development back to GM
Highlight challenges and propose solutions to issues that arise.
Production & Operation Management
Oversee all cellar & maintenance functions (inc day-to-day operations)
Production planning and execution
Manage execution and closure of all work orders
Working with the group sales plans drive the annual production planning processes, forecasts & budgets to meet group requirements
Liaising with the group’s own-label wine producer (DWSA) manage the relationship for supply of wines to HCW including price negotiations and stock provisions to ensure flow of wine to our wider customer base.
Responsible for purchase and inventory control of winery raw materials including maintenance supplies
BSc or higher in Sciences or other appropriate fields
Winery construction experience (desirable)
Wine industry background (essential) & winemaking experience (essential)
Knowledge of Standard and advanced winery equipment
Negotiation, business planning & budgeting experience at high level
Strong leadership skills
Communication (written, oral, ability to correspond with all levels of organisations)
Proven history of HR skill set
Entrepreneurial but flexible
Critical thinking skills

Working knowledge of regulations
