DiGiorgio Family Wines is a historic winery located right in the heart of the world famous Coonawarra wine region. The winery had been known since the early 1950s as Rouge Homme and holds enormous importance within the winescape of Australia.

The purchase by the DiGiorgio family of the winery and surrounding vineyards in 2002 ensured that the winery was in terrific condition and contained state of the art technology, whilst retaining the historic elements of the building.

Reporting to the Managing Director this position is a full time permanent senior role where you will be leading a dynamic winemaking team and have a desire to maintain and grow the current portfolio to the highest possible standards. This will be a rewarding position, ideal for a hands-on winemaker with the ability to lead and work with a small team of passionate wine professionals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the winemaking team
  • Be an integral part of the management team, reporting to the director and liaising with other staff
  • Manage all winery systems and assets
  • Co-ordinate and control the production of wine
  • Responsible for overseeing the preparation of samples and blends for various clients
  • Manage the quality control and bottling of wine
  • Involvement in vineyard direction and fruit assessments
  • Involvement in brand promotion both domestically and overseas, being the face of DiGiorgio Family Wines in the market and represent the winery to distributors, trade and at events
  • Provide wine education for the cellar door and sales teams
  • Preparation of tasting notes and back labels, including LIP compliance
  • An integral part of strategic planning, manage all aspects and be compliant with OH&S
  • Be aware and monitor winemaking trends and ensure all practices are in line with industry best practice

Skills and Attributes:

  • Have an excellent understanding of the winemaking process/experience in commercial wine production with proven experience in a similar role
  • Highly developed palate for quality wine assessment
  • Passion and excitement for wine, the annual harvest and ability to work long hours
  • Great communication skills, strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Be dynamic and energetic with confident negotiating skills
  • Be highly organized
