Description

VAF Memstar is a long established and respected developer and provider of technological services to the wine industry. It is about to launch a new mobile wine treatment service, that applies a membrane based electrodialysis process to adjust the ionic (mineral) concentration of wine. Besides reducing the growing problem of excess salt – potassium, sodium, chloride - in wine, this is a low energy, inline process for cold stabilising wine, including calcium instability.

VAF Memstar now seeks to appoint an Oenologist to drive the implementation and wide industry acceptance of its new, state-of-the-art, mobile electrodialysis process.  A new plant for this purpose has been designed and manufactured in Australia by VAF Memstar.

The position will be based in the Barossa Valley and initially will answer to the Research & Development Manager.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Actively participate in the commissioning of the new plant
  • Develop system procedures and documentation
  • Act as the primary contact for current and prospective clients
  • Arrange for the processing of preliminary samples, analyses, and trials
  • Prepare job documentation and manage contracts
  • Perform basic maintenance and plant preparation

  • follow up with quality assurance and client satisfaction management
  • Assist with research and development
  • Train other operators to provide the service (in due course)

Formal qualification and experience in oenology or winemaking are desirable; however, a background in chemistry, engineering or project management may be suitable. A credible wine tasting capability and interest is important, as is the personality, confidence, and competence to engage the client winemaker to understand and participate in the process.

In any case, the chosen candidate will be required to have the aptitude and attitude to be trained in the full technical background of the process and how it affects wine chemistry and sensory. The position is predominantly hands-on and technical but has a strong sales and support component.

An appropriate remuneration package will be negotiated according to the applicant’s qualifications, experience, and capability.
